Original painting, painted in 2024 with acrylic on canvas in multiple layers. This is a medium-large painting (1m on the widest side). It is part of a recent series of paintings where my work is moving towards a more illustrative style inspired by Medieval illuminated manuscripts, by Persian Miniatures and by historical and mythological imagery and archaeological items. Patterns are in evidence here and there, a nod to traditional Middle-Eastern art and architecture and my own distant genetic heritage.
And while not Baroque in style, the maximalism approach of having numerous subjects and decorative elements, colours, shapes and forms within one painting is Baroque-like. All my work features animals, plants and nature (even non-existent creatures and plants find their place into my art). These natural elements reflect my love and appreciation of the natural world around me, my care for the environment and my practice of observing all the tiny intricate details I look out for when out in nature – each ‘cog’ no matter how small interdependent on each other.
I use an intuitive process to create the works, namely: laying down an abstract ground of colours and forms and then, paint layer by paint layer, building a new world with shapes and tones.
The title of this piece hints at my aim: for my created world to provide an escape from the horrors of the real world allowing the viewer into a new place where our collective unconsciousness, genetic memories, myths and stories all blend together into something new and yet maybe strangely familiar.
I’m happy to do a payment plan for this original painting. Or, if you would like instead a limited edition print of this work, please get in touch via the contact form or DM me on one of my social media platforms .
